Building on the studios ethos of fostering balanced communities through activity, interaction and inclusion, the introduction of a multi-generational co-housing proposal will seek to eliminate cultural isolation and coalesce the different stakeholders present in the Canal Quarter area into one central edifice. The Development looks to challenge the traditional housing typology of Nottingham through the introduction of a new residential and social quarter carving a series of new internal and external public spaces into the existing urban fabric and subsequently activating the sites boundaries. By coalescing the facets of living, working and making within the same urban framework, informal thresholds populate the site thus blurring the lines between public and private realms. This diversification ambitiously attempts to attract new opportunities for a range of demographics, placing the community institution at the heart of the design.
