Intergenerationality describes the healthy interactions between people of different generations. This comprehensive project aims to strengthen generational connections through the medium of gardening. They say, ‘with age comes wisdom’ and at the Horticulture Hub we see this in action, where the older generations pass on their garden knowledge and the younger generations spread their infectious enthusiasm.
The scheme takes the brief title ‘Horticulture Hub’ quite literally, with a centralized garden that all other rooms look onto. The building appears to wrap itself around the garden, forming a peaceful sanctuary from the urban fabric that surrounds it. With lots of glazing facing the garden and by installing a pergola where plants can be stored, the outdoors and indoors become integrated. Gardening beds at multiple heights and tools in assorted sizes ensure intergenerational inclusivity whilst rainwater harvesting systems and controllable light shutters amplify energy efficiency.
