Located in the Arboretum, Nottingham, the brief outlined the intention of creating a building which allowed for intergenerational mixing to encourage knowledge exchanges and enhance the community through educational practice. The intent of the advocated scheme aims to become a transitional space from the exterior gardens of the park to the internal structure of the horticulture hub – blurring the boundaries between the two differentiated spaces. Surrounded by different educational institutions and a residential district, the horticulture hub promotes the learning of nature and ecology while using the plants grown to preserve public gardens across Nottingham. The scheme accommodates for all generations through interactive growing spaces, a variety of workshops and lectures as well as public amenities while climatizing for the public, volunteers, and plants individually. The building aims to stand as a sustainable educational, and social institution allowing for natural resources such as rainwater harvesting to be utilized for planting efficacy.
