Biography

Dr Luke J. Prendergast is Associate Professor in Civil Engineering at University of Nottingham, UK. Previously, he was a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Geosciences, Delft University of Technology, the Netherlands, 2016-2018. Prior to this, he was a Postdoctoral Researcher at University College Dublin (UCD), Ireland, 2015-2016.

Luke obtained his PhD at University College Dublin in 2015 and holds a Bachelor of Engineering (Civil) from University College Cork (UCC), Ireland (2011).

Expertise Summary

Research interests include Structural Health Monitoring, Vibration-Based Bridge Scour Monitoring, Offshore Engineering, Structural Dynamics and Geotechnical Engineering.

Recent Publications

Current Research

Luke is interested in dynamic soil-structure interaction and vibration-based damage detection. His research focuses on detecting the presence of scour erosion around bridges and offshore structures by analyzing changes in the structure's dynamic signatures.

Past Research

Luke has conducted research into vibration-based bridge scour detection, estimating soil stiffness for small-strain dynamic applications and offshore monopile engineering

Future Research

Luke is interested in investigating long term cyclic behavior of offshore foundations for wind turbines, particularly how cyclic degradation in soil stiffness may affect the structure's dynamic response.

I welcome enquiries from potential PhD candidates from Home, EU and international countries who are interested in the following research areas: Vibration-Based Damage Detection; Soil-Structure interaction; Offshore Foundations; Structural Health Monitoring; Vehicle-Bridge Interaction
