Mohamed did his undergraduate degree at the University of Nottingham, in Civil and Environmental Engineering, and followed it with a PhD in Civil Engineering, specialising in Fluid Dynamics. After his PhD, Mohamed was appointed as an Assistant Professor, with specific focus on teaching and curriculum leadership.
Mohamed's main area of expertise is in computing and computer programming and how engineering ties in with computer science. Mohamed's teaching focuses around the areas of Computer programming, Fluids and Mechanics, with specific focus on using Matlab to help with modeling engineering phenomena.
Prior to being appointed as Head of Department of Civil Engineering, Mohamed was the Director of Student Recruitment for the Faculty of Engineering where he led on the faculty's international partnerships portfolio.
