Biography
*ASSISTANT PROFESSOR, UNIVERSITY OF NOTTINGHAM, 2023-present.
Chenyang He is an Assistant Professor in Electrical and Electronic Engineering at the University of Nottingham (UoN) and has been engaged in developing various fibre optic bio-/chemical/physiological sensors for healthcare and electric machine (partially) applications. These utilise a range of different sensing mechanisms including optical gratings, absorption dyes, Fabry-Perot interferometers and plasmonic nanostructures. Dr He currently focuses on the development of implantable sensors for multi-parameter monitoring in healthcare applications.
*POSTDOC, OPTICS AND PHOTONICS RESEARCH GROUP, UNIVERSITY OF NOTTINGHAM, 2020-2023.
Dr He was highly self-motivated postdoctoral researcher in Healthcare Photonics & Sensing. As an independent researcher, he has dedicated himself to improving his academic and scientific skills during these 5 years (since 2017) in UK. Dr He has been co-supervising three PhD researchers, 4 MSc and 9 FYP undergraduate students. Dr He taught them fundamental laboratory skills and built their confidence to work in a research lab developing fibre optic sensors and its associated electronics and signal processing.

Chenyang obtained the PhD degree in Aug. 2021 in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from the University of Nottingham, UK, specialise in optical fibre sensing for physical and biochemical health monitoring. During the PhD journey, Chenyang had the opportunity to work not only on academic-related projects but also with clinicians and industry partners.
Expertise Summary
My area of research is in the development of various optic bio-/chemical/physiological sensors for healthcare (mainly) and electric machine (partially) applications. These utilise a range of different sensing mechanisms including optical gratings, absorption dyes, Fabry-Perot interferometers and plasmonic nanostructures. I currently focus on the development of implantable sensors for multi-parameter monitoring in healthcare applications.
