Professor, Faculty of Engineering
In 1991 I graduated with an Upper Second class Honours degree in Physics with Applied Physics and Electronics from the University of Nottingham. I remained at Nottingham, moving to the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering to study for a PhD in Speech Analysis and Synthesis using Neural Networks. Upon the completion of my studies, I joined the staff of the School and now hold the position of Director of Academic and Information systems. As well as Information system related duties I also lecture a number of modules including Software Engineering and Presentation of Information.
My teaching duties in the School are based around networking and programming; I provide instruction both in taught modules to undergraduates and on a one-to-one basis with members of the research school. Having studied for a PhD at Notingham in the field of Parallel Processing techniques I have considerable expertise in the optimal implementation of algorithms on multip-processor systems with this work extending in to the use of MPI across memory channel based systems; I am also involved in training researchers in this area to enable them to meet their research objectives. I have considerable expertise in a number of computing languages (C, C++, PHP, VB, Assembler) as well as an extensive SQL primarialy based on Microsoft SQL servers; ny networking skills include UNIX, Novell Netware (3-6), Windows 98, ME, 2000 and XP. I also have considerable experience in the development of multi-system SQL based applications example of which include software for network configuration and student record maintainance and planning. Recently I have also become a visiting lecturer as part of joint MSc with the Warsal Institute of Technology
