Biography
I joined the University of Nottingham as an academic in the Department of Mechanical, Materials and Manufacturing Engineering in 2019, and moved across to become Head of Department in the Department of Foundation Engineering and Physical Sciences in 2023. I am also the Programme Director of the Electro-mechanical Engineering Degree Level Apprenticeship (a Level 6 apprenticeship), developing the programme before its initial offering from September 2021 and directing it since that date.
From 2005 to 2019 I worked in Rolls-Royce plc within their Fuel Cell Systems group, initially leading the Design Analysis team before having roles as Fuel Cell Stack & Vessel Workpackage Owner and latterly as the Head of Business and Programme Management responsible for a team of ~30 and annual budget of £5M. I was also Programme Manager and Risk Coordinator for the global business LG Fuel Cell Systems owned jointly by Rolls-Royce and LG (annual budget £30M).
The transition to Rolls-Royce from Imperial College London was funded by a Royal Academy of Engineering award.
From 1991 to 2005 I was an academic at Imperial College London in the Mechanical Engineering department with research interests in the mechanical integrity of fuel cell systems and computer-aided design.
I studied for my PhD at University College London in the Mechanical Engineering department from 1987 to 1991.
