Get hands on with our Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering facilities
With significant investments in the last few years, your studies can shift up a gear thanks to our Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering facilities. You'll love learning in our state-of-the-art design studios, newly equipped 3D printing laboratory and new digital manufacturing workshop. Here, along with all of our lab spaces and industry-relevant machinery, you'll develop the skills and understanding to deal with your preferred engineering specialism and realise the future is what you make it.
Please note the exact facilities and equipment you will use depends on your specific course.
“When I actually put my hands on those machines, and to have an effect on the world – that is the actual application of engineering.”
Stephen El-Hoyek – Mechanical Engineering BEng graduate
Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering workshops
This is the place you'll put what you've been learning into practice on project work. Our amazing equipment replicates what is used in industry and includes: our Swift-Cut CNC Plasma Cutting Machines, XYZ CNC milling machines and CNC lathes.
You'll have access to these workshops throughout your studies with us. Getting trained on how to use all the tools is part of your first and second year design modules - and you'll use them for your 'group design and make' project. Students also benefit from being able to use the workshops for personal projects too.
Group Design and Make project room
Our Group Design and Make Projects take place in our project room. It's your opportunity to work creatively as a group, starting from conception and a statement of requirements, to building the prototype of your own product. You'll professionally design, manage and budget your project, experiencing what it's like to work on similar projects in industry.
Used throughout your studies, this facility is where you'll produce your most rewarding work and it will truly prepare you for both working in business and research. The engineering knowledge combined with the soft skills (like project management and communication) that you gain will be invaluable for your future.
