FolDe, a Folding desk

The drastic changes in behaviours of labourers working from home due to the pandemic meant that many had opted to buying a desk to help accommodate them with their new working environment from home. These unexpected series of events drove most home workers to not be able to have a desk be always up as many did of them did not have enough spacing. That being said, with the foldable desks, space is not compromised as the desk can be put out when needed and folded and packed away when not needed. As a result of this, the purpose of this project is to design a desk that can be folded and packed away. The name FolDe, is derived from ‘Folding Desk’, Fol(ding) De(sk), essentially making up the product’s name and it is pronounced as ‘fold’. Like the name of the product, the idea of the product is to be able to fold and be put away when not needed, providing a solution to those labourers who didn’t have sufficient amount of space at their homes.

Through research that was conducted, it was identified that users would like extra additional accessories added to the product such as a cup holder, bag hooks etc. To ensure that the product caters to the target market, the folding desk designed contains a cup holder, two bag hooks, cable management and a stationary holder.

Student Biography

As long as I remember, I loved being creative. I like designing objects and seeing how they work. With product design and manufacture, I was able to understand and gain first-hand experience to various skills such CAD, rendering, concept drawings, etc. From this, I have thoroughly enjoyed keyshot as I have found it very fun and exciting to bring a CAD model to life by adding materials and colours.
