Tiwone Parker
Portable Hair Appliance Storage Unit
The idea for this project stemmed from my own personal experience. I have 5 electrical hair appliances and sometimes I can use up to 3 of them getting reay for one night out. Being someone who has carpet in my room and limited table top space, I find it hard to find a heat proof surface for my appliances. I also have to leave them out to cool down, which means my room is left in a state when I leave. I also wanted to solve the issue of having to go to separate places for your hair products and appliances to ensure the styling process is efficient and convenient.
Having taken inspiration from a makeup box, I have designed a 'travel case' with hair appliances and products in mind. The product is not only suitable for home use but also for times where you may need the items outside of the home. For example, when getting ready at a friend's on a night out or if you are a hair stylist. From the research I gathered, I found out that the 3 main electrical hair appliances are the hair dryer, straightener and curler. As a result, I designed 1 compartment for the hair dryer, one for both the hair curler and straighter and a compartment for any products or hair accessories. All compartments are made from polyurethene (a heat proof polymer). A heat proof tray is also provided, giving the user a flat surface to work off of. The case uses a telescopic mechanism to elevate; this irradicates the issue of having to continuously bend and stretch. This product is easy to use, heat proof and aids organisation.
There is also extra space at the top for any extra items and if the user feels like they want to use the case to store something else, they can.

Student Biography
My name is Tiwone and I am 22 years old. I have had a passion for design since secondary school. I studied Design Technology for GCSEs and Product Design for A Levels. For many years I have looked up to James Dyson in particular; his products have always intrigued me and it is a desire of mine to one day produce or be part of the production of a life changing product.
The reason I chose PDM at the University of Nottingham is because it is the perfect blend of technical and creative. I am also driven to defy the odds; I want to be a successful, black female engineer. My favourite part of the course is the focus on user-centred design. Since starting his course, I tend to look at many things in a more analytical way. I also enjoy taking things apart and discovering how this perfectly constructed product was made of several pieces that come together.
Post studying I would like to work within the manufacturing industry, UX/UI or product development.
