Dogsafe. - a safety device for dogs in cars
Dogsafe. is a device that was designed for small dogs that can be used in the back seat of a car. The product not only improves the dog’s overall safety whilst travelling, but also provides extra comfort for them. The device has a strong and bold aesthetic, that appeals to the intended target audience of 25 - 65-year-old small dog and car owners in the UK. The product aims to be intuitive and easy to use for a variety of users and provides all the appropriate safety features that ensure the dog has always optimal protection whilst travelling in the car.
Heavily inspired by child seat safety features, the Dogsafe. uses LATCH (Lower Anchor & Tethers for Children) technology to attach the device to all standard UK rear car seats. This attachment system means the device is always set in place whilst the car is moving, keeping it stable for everyday travels, as well as in the circumstance of a car accident.
The Dogsafe. has been made for manufacture using high impact-resistant materials to enhance protection and safety in the event of a car crash. The materials selected also offer high durability and comfort for the dog. The cushioning inside for example is wipeable and washable, making it a hygienic choice for the application.
The inner doors of the device can be removed so multiple devices can be attached together. This feature is especially useful for owners with more than one small dog, as it makes it possible for two dogs to travel safely together. The rear clasps and side magnets enable a strong connection.
In the event of a car accident or otherwise, where either of the side doors become blocked or inaccessible, an emergency exit has been installed for peace of mind. The emergency release spring loaded latch can be pulled to enable a front panel piece to drop down.
The device is also designed for the owner in mind. With a comfortable rubber gripped handle and a lightweight design, the device can be moved and carried around with ease.
The Dogsafe. has been carefully thought out with dog safety at the forefront of the design process. It fills a gap in the market, as there is currently no product in the UK that specifically addresses dog safety in cars that also offers sufficient exterior and impact protection.
