Triangle

A more luxurious way to experience the wilderness of Africa than what is currently on offer.

Thomas Farren

Hello, my name is Thomas Farren, I am a motivated and practical individual, with a keen desire to learn new things. I take pride in my work and strive to fully understand a product or process in order to achieve an engaging and functional outcome. Granted with the privilege of studying at university, I welcome the undertaking of new projects with confidence in my abilities.

Outside of university, I have had the fortune of refining my skills and understanding of certain manufacturing processes by working closely with my father, who also shares the same interests as me. Some of the projects we have undertaken together are summarised on my website.

Away from the workshops and studios, I often find myself fishing for tuna or taking wildlife photographs in some of the more remote parts of Tanzania, where I have grown up.

Camping solutions for self-drive safaris

People are travelling more and more to Africa with the hopes of going on the classic safari experience. However, the expense of these trips can often be a deterrent for tourists and self-drive companies are becoming increasingly popular due to the cheap costs associated with this form of safari.

UTE is primarily intended to accommodate people who want to experience the wilderness of Africa in a more luxurious way than is currently offered by other self-drive safari companies but at a lower cost than a typical safari. UTE has also evolved to become an outdoor product designed to challenge the way people view camping and campervans. The idea would be to reach out to a larger audience of people by advertising the product to be more than just pick up camper.

The unit is able to accommodate up to four people comfortably. It boasts two large double beds, a shower area with solar heated water, and a fully kitted out kitchen and cooking area. The product has two lifting roofs with large skylights which introduce more light into the product and allows for star gazing.

The main focuses for the product have been:

  • Creating large open spaces
  • Accommodating four people
  • Making the product light and easy to install and remove
  • A removable kitchen - this has become a feature of UTE as it gives the product a different element that is not commonly seen in campers
