A solar powered tyre trolley for Formula 1 to product is to reduce emissions.

Dhru Mistry

Hello, my name is Dhru Mistry, 3rd year PDM student with many interests ranging from sports, travelling and food to name a few.

The reason why I chose to study PDM is mainly that since year 7 product design has always been my favourite subject and something that I enjoy greatly as it allows me to express my creatively whilst being technical. I would say my main interests within this course has been the CAD and rendering as it is something that I find heavily fascinating and satisfying.

The career I would be looking for is one to do with either engineering within motorsport or something that involves innovation through design and engineering as innovation is probably where my main passion lies, as knowing that you helped design something that has improved a product to improve success of a business/company, there can’t be many feelings greater than that.

A solar powered tyre trolley

The product that I chose create is a tyre trolley for use within Formula 1, the main solution that I'm trying to combat with is product is to reduce emissions that are produced through tyre heating within the sport as within the support 45% of emissions produced are produced within the logistics sector which is where this product lies within the 5 sectors of emissions but how this product actually reduces emissions is through it being powered through solar energy, there is a solar panel right on the top of the assembly that will gather the charge and store the charge ready for use during a race weekend however this isn't the only problem I am trying to solve, user comfort is the next one, although not a tremendous issue, it could still be helped as you when you see an engineer pushing a tyre trolley they're lent over, knees bent which can cause problems and pain and so to try an solve this, I produced a handle with a rubber layer for hand comfort but also positioned at the right level so that the user doesn't need to use any muscles that shouldn't be used when having to push the trolley around the pitlane/paddock etc.
