Hello! I’m a recently graduated Product Design and Manufacture student on the BEng course with a year in industry. I have a passion for finding new solutions to real world design problems. I love the process of sketching at the start of a new brief, striving to improve the whole user experience by iterating design solutions to a complete well considered design solution that will leave a lasting impression with the end user. I will be taking part in the Mongol Rally this summer where three friends and I will be driving to far eastern Kazakhstan in a highly unsuitable Daihatsu Hijet then after that I am looking forward to getting stuck into the working world and applying the design skills I have learnt while at university and on placement.

Ember Camp Fire

The Ember Camp Fire is the world’s first safe complete heating solution for camping enthusiasts. When researching existing camping heater solutions I found two problems; one - gas heaters produce the harmful gas carbon monoxide which can be deadly in confined spaces like a van or tent, and two, existing electric space heaters are not portable for campers on the go. This provided an opportunity for a complete portable safe heating solution for camping enthusiasts. Introducing Ember; An electric camping heater with rechargeable heating pods. Ember has two heating modes. Primary heating – Camp Fire mode where an 1000w PTC ceramic heating element provides space heating for use in a tent or van. Then ember mode - where the ember pods inside the campfire module store and release heat to provide localised heating direct to the body. These four ember pods will each provide you with four hours of heat. Ember has an LED lantern to provide a warm glow to mimic a campfire and create a focal point for people to gather around. It also features a 30Ah battery which will provide 1.5hrs of Space Heating and charge up the pods for one full cycle - with integrated USB outputs to charge users phones off grid.

Ember mode utilised innovative zeolite technology. Zeolites are a naturally occurring fully sustainable volcanic bead that sore heat in their chemical bonds when heated – this heat is then locked in and can be stored for months - They then release heat when water is added. These beads can be cycled through 1000s of cycles with little degradation in heat storage. After 1h of charging time the Lantern will flash green three times – this indicated the pods are fully charged and ready to use.
