Re-creator, a filament extruder. This extruding system allows anyone to make custom 3D printing filaments at home or in a lab, starting from industrial pellet or chopped wrong 3D prints, old models and plastic waste.

I am Yanjia Wang, a BEng student in University of Nottingham. I have spent two years in China and two years in UK for product design learning.

I got a great interest in handcraft and mechanical products from my childhood. I love to explore how parts interact with each other and make some craft like DIY loudspeakers. This interest grew into a desire to design and build my own products when I got into the university. I chose to study PDM and learn the principles of design.

In university period, I did some projects on certain topics including wearable devices, UI/UX devices, fruit detector and 3D printing related devices. I am interested in combining new technologies and social problems and I am trying to utilize the 3D printing technology to build braille to help blind people.

I am going to participate in a master project and get further education.

Re-creator

Using our desktop filament re-creator you will be able to choose your filament color and material, day by day, according to your creativity and your needs. In this way you will save over 80% of the price of filaments spools and help to protect the environment.

This whole project idea came from a problem: recently, 3D printing technology especially the FDM 3D printing is wildly used by designers, producers and 3D printing hobbyists. However, the duration of the 3D-printed product could be very limited. In addition, false printings and plastic waste can be a huge problem. In that case, re-creator can be a solution to this problem. After separating plastics by category and shredding process, Re-creator can be used in the extruding and collecting process to make waste into new filament.

There are two different packages for different level consumers. First, we provide Basic kit for those who has certain experience on 3D printing. The basic kit includes all the mechanical and electric parts you need. Consumers need to download the 3D models from our website and print out the outer shell. Then the guild book will help them connect the wires and finish the product. The other choice is purchasing assembled re-creator. It is an ideal choice for those who want to begin extruding easily. It is ready for use after purchase.
