Hello, I’m Lizzie; I’m an MEng Product Design and Manufacture student at the University of Nottingham graduating in July 2024. Originally from North Yorkshire, I’m a dedicated and determined individual who thrives off challenges. My design approach is very pragmatic and I’m always seeking to learn new methods and techniques to improve my designs. I strive to find creative and sustainable design solutions that resonate with the user. I have a particular interest in human factors and ergonomics. Following my time at Nottingham, I hope to pursue a career in design.

Outside of my work I love to dance and play sports. This past year, I have been President of the university’s dance society, NUDance, where I’ve had the opportunity to really develop my teamwork, leadership, and management skills. I’ve also competed nationally as part of the NUDance’s Advanced Ballet Competition Team for the past four years.

Enbodi

Enbodi is a set of wearable TENS units, that can be placed around the user's body to provide them with targeted and effective pain relief. They are designed to help reduce the pain cause by menstruation and diagnoses such as endometriosis, by providing safe, non-hormonal and non-invasive pain relief. TENS technology works by utilising electrical stimulation to block out the pain. The enbodi kit includes four hexagonal control units, two electrode pads for the abdomen and back, two electrode pads for the legs and a charging case to fit everything inside of.

The control units consist of an ABS housing with pad printed details on the intensity and mode adjustment buttons. The unit is only 16mm thick, so the user can easily wear it under their clothing. Inside each unit, there is a 180mAh battery, which allows for just over three hours of pain relief. An app was also designed alongside the units, to allow the user an even more discreet method of adjusting their pain relief.

The electrode pads feature an auxetic design, which means they can stretch out into a new shape. Some of the benefits of this include it can move and flex much better with the user’s body, it can pack away smaller, and it uses less material whilst still covering a larger area.

Once the user is satisfied with their pain relief, which would typically be after around 20 minutes of electrical stimulation, they can pack everything away and allow the units to recharge, via the pogo pins. The units are held in place via insert moulded magnets within the case. The charging case has a 3300mAh battery, that allows each unit to be charged three times. When the case does run out, it can be recharged using a USB-C cable.
