Merin Roy

With a passion for design and engineering I’ve always had an interest in understanding the working mechanisms and the forms of the products around me. This paved my way to product design, combining creativity with engineering. During my studies, I've developed a keen interest in the entire design process, especially in creating renders that bring ideas to life.

As I move forward, I aim to pursue a career in product design, engaging in hands-on design work and collaborating with diverse teams. I’m excited about the opportunity to create impactful, everyday solutions through thoughtful design.

Ditto - A compact and portable clothes dryer

In today's market, there's a need for a more efficient and user-friendly clothes drying appliance, especially for individuals living alone or in shared households. Current lower-range clothes dryers often lack efficiency and convenience, and the rising cost of living has meant that highly energy intensive appliances like a tumble dryer contribute significantly to household expenses, that which many can’t afford, leaving users searching for better solutions. Ditto is a clothes drying appliance designed to meet these needs with functionality and portability.

Ditto differs from existing solutions by using hot air circulation along with a dehumidification system to create a more efficient drying environment. The mechanism works by generating a stream of hot air which is then split into two pathways: one directs the air directly into the airer space and the other through an inflatable tube to the other end of the airer for a more even distribution of heat. As the clothes as exposed to this, the moisture is effectively drawn out by the dehumidification system where it will either be cooled and condensed into water that is collected into a water tank or recirculated into the system to be reheated.

The airer frame utilises intuitive design to allow for easy setup and usage: the user simply pulls the cover out of the way, extends the frame to its full length, and then pulls the cover back over the frame.

The user interface includes an LED light to indicate when Ditto is turned on, while additional LED indicators clearly show which setting the user has selected. For added convenience and safety, the controls also feature indicators for maintenance alerts and user safety warnings. This straightforward process ensures that Ditto can be quickly and easily prepared for drying clothes.
