Triangle

What is your background?

I received my MChem in Chemistry from Manchester Metropolitan University where my main research project aim was to synthesise broad-spectrum antibiotic candidates, which gave me experience in both organic and inorganic synthesis. I gained analytical experience from three summer placements working as a research assistant, where one led to publication.

What is your research about?

I am undertaking a doctoral training programme, Molecular Imaging and Analysis, at the University of Nottingham in cooperation with the Faculty of Engineering, the School of Chemistry and the School of Geography. My research will be focused on understanding the extent and impact of plastic pollution on water quality and services, using established and emerging analytical techniques. I aim to assess limitations in current methodologies and develop best practice guidance for maximising microplastic identification success. I will also evaluate the impact of environmental conditions and degradation on microplastic identification and develop techniques for quantifying microplastic concentrations in situ.

Why did you choose the University of Nottingham?

I chose the University of Nottingham for a variety of reasons, the main ones being: it is one of the top 20 universities in the UK for PhD study, the doctoral training programme that I applied for intrigued me, and is located in an area that I wished to reside.
