A Demonstrator
Of
An e-Portfolio approach to application for undergraduate courses in the
UK
This HTML demonstrator shows how an e-Portfolio approach to applications
for HE courses via UCAS might work. It uses the thin e-Portfolio engine
reference model from the "e-Portfolio for lifelong learning reference
model" project.
Features:
- An example of an FE-based e-Portfolio product within which functionality
is illustrated.
- Demonstration of structured course Entry Profiles and Personal Statements.
- Demonstration of information flow from the learner's perspective from
sourcing Entry Profiles to submitting an application through UCAS.
- Links with potential web services within the UCAS domain.
- Side bars to show notes about the workings of the Demonstrator.
- Links to technical documentation, including WSDL files, diagrams and
service definitions.
Overall Narrative: Within the context of an Individual Learning Plan
(ILP) negotiated at age 17, when she entered college, Anne has expressed
a desire to progress from FE college to Higher Education, probably studying
electronic engineering. She has attended university run master classes
in engineering as a taster of Higher Education. She searches for courses,
mapping her own academic and non-academic profile against the UCAS Entry
Profiles of different courses. Anne discusses these draft Personal Statements
and the initial outcomes of her research with her college adviser. She
records comments, both formal and informal in her personal learning space
on the college e-Portfolio system. Her college tutor writes her a reference,
and she applies to her chosen courses at selected HEIs.
