Specific Research Subjects:High-temperature coatings design, development and performance. Elevated temperature creep testing and FE modelling of the integrity of protective oxide layers. Lifing of thermal barrier coatings. Catalysed carbon deposition in mixed gaseous environments. Oxidation of advanced high-temperature magnets. Finite-difference modelling of solute depletion (e.g.Al) during oxidation and predictions of the onset of breakaway oxidation and chemical failure.
Specific Facilities: oxidation thermobalances (up to 1300°C) and static mixed gas rigs, constant stress creep rigs (up to 1000°C), SEM, FEG-ESEM, TEM (including HREM), Auger, XRD
