Magdalena Goyechea de Güemes Montero

Biographical details

Born in Jujay in 1763, she married Gabriel de Güemes Montero on 31 May 1778, minister for the royal treasury. They had nine children, among them Martín and Macacha. She was widowed and married José Francisco de Tineo in 1807. She held a high position in Salta society for her son's activity and her own talents. She contributed to the independence cause, supporting her son and after his death, took part in the revolution that defeated governor Fernández Cornejo. She later supported the Unitarian party along with her daughter Macacha. She died in Salta on 5 February 1853. (Sosa de Newton, 287)
