Biographical details
As a young woman, she and her sister Candelaria delivered correspondence between the patriot army and the people of Lima. They distributed bulletins in the streets and in the churches that they had secretly printed. They were betrayed and sent to prison where they were tortured. They remained in jail until San Martín's army entered Lima and he ordered their immediate release (along with all others imprisoned for rebelling against the king). They took their punishment serenely and with piety. They were among the group of women decorated by San Martín by his banda de honor in his "sociedad Peruana de Damas". (García y García, 217-218)
