Biographical details

An aristocratic woman of Spanish descent from Lima, she married Argentine General Barrenechea who had accompanied San Martín during his Peruvian campaign. She gave unconditional support to the independence campaign and persuaded others to join them. She and her friends collected bandages and dressings that were then sent to the soldiers. Chroniclers state that within a few hours they had collected a mountain of thread, which they then converted into fine fabric. (García y García, 285)
