Biographical details

Her Necesidad de un establecimiento de educación para jóvenes mexicanas", was published in Mexico in 1823. She condemned women’s “barbarous ignorance, mortal enemy of all good and original source of all evil”. (Zoraida Vásquez, 21; Arrom, 19)

With Guadalupe Silva, she professed concern for “the betterment of my sex”. She claimed that schooling would raise women “from the subjection and scorn with which the Fair Sex is viewed”. (Arrom, 4)

She asked the municipal government for permission to establish a Mexican Academy for Girls to teach “refined politics and healthy morals”. (Arrom, 198)
