Coronel Juan Salinas

Biographical details

In November and December 1808 he was a member of a group based in Quito that conspired against the Spanish authorities. Their plot was due to have been carried out in March 1809, but the plan was discovered in February 1809. They nonetheless continued to hold clandestine meetings and overthrew the audiencia on 19 August 1809. His wife, María de la Vega is mentioned in connection with this movement. He was imprisoned in October 1809, and was killed, possibly in 1810. (Monsalve, 39, 41, 46)
