Biographical details

Born around 1815, the daughter of María Carmen Durán y Polanco and Emigdio Benítez. She was very young when her father was executed by the royalists in July 1816. She was one of the daughters of the martyrs who crowned Bolívar when he entered Bogotá in triumph after the battle of Boyacá in 1819. (Monsalve, 139)
