Francisca Ortega Nariño

Biographical details

Born in Bogotá, in 1780, she was the daughter of José de Ortega and Benita Nariño, sister of General José María Ortega, niece of Antonio Nariño and second cousin of Manuel Bernardo Alvarez, who was shot by Morillo. On August 1819 she was among a group of 20 young women from distinguished families presented to Bolívar when he arrived at Bogotá in triumph. (Monsalve, 218, 221)
