Biographical details

Born in Bogotá in 1803, daughter of Emigdio Benítez and Teresa Plata. Her father was shot by Morillo in 1816. On August 1819 she was among a group of 20 young women from distinguished families presented to Bolívar when he arrived at Bogotá in triumph. (Monsalve, 219, 222)
