Biographical details

From Buenos Aires, the daughter of Beata María Antonia de Paz y Figueroa and Domingo Lastra, who died in battle against Rosas at Libres del Sur in 1839. Her brother, Fermín also died in that battle. In 1842 the French artist, Raimundo Quinsac de Monvoisin, made her the subject of "La portena en el templo". (Sosa de Newton, 348)
