Eduarda Mansilla de García

Biographical details

Born in Buenos Aires, in 1834, the daughter of Agustina Rosas and Lucio Mansilla and niece of Rosas. She was educated within his close family circle. She married Manuel Rafael García, a diplomat and they moved to the United States and Europe. Her first novel appeared in 1860. She worked as a journalist using the pseudonym Alvar. She settled in Paris, while García moved to Austria where he died in 1887. She returned to Buenos Aires two months later, where her home became a cultural and social centre for intellectuals and politicians. She died on 29 December 1892. (Sosa de Newton, 382)
