Biographical details

From Buenos Aires, she was the daughter of Manuel Vicente Maza who was assassinated by Rosas on 27 June 1839, her brother was killed the following day. Both men had been sought by Rosas's soldiers at her home. A few days later it was reported that she had had "la audacidad" to paint the front of her house black and to dress in mourning as a consequence. (Sosa de Newton, 398-399)
