Candelaria Somellera de Espinosa y de Pino

Biographical details

Born in 1777, she lived in Buenos Aires and became a composer and hosted cultural salons. Her religious music was performed in churches. She could speak French and played the piano. She was friends with Encarnación Ezcurra de Rosas and of Mariquita Sánchez. Guillermo Brown attended her tertulias. She married Julián Gregorio Espinosa and on being widowed, remarried Juan Pino around 1850 when she was aged 73 and he was a widower in his 60s. Pino was Bernardo Rivadavia's brother-in-law. She died in Buenos Aires in 1856. (Sosa de Newton, 612)
