Biographical details

The sister of Dr Pedro Francisco de Uriarte, of the Congreso de Tucumán, she worked with Ana María Taboada in the 1820s. Taboada took the name Ana María del Niño Jesús and oversaw the building of the chapel and convent of Belén in 1823. The hermanas de Belén went around the country begging for alms. Uriarte and Taboada co-founded the first free school for girls in Santiago de Estero, Argentina. (Sosa de Newton, 626, 647)
