She is described as a poor white woman, who in 1795 stated in court: "A woman is given to a man in marriage to become his compañera, not to suffer vexation, oppression, and violence from ill-tempered men, who abusing their power and physical strength, forget their main obligations as husbands, as Christians and as citizens." (Díaz, 96)
