Biographical details

Took over the editorship of the Jornal das Senhoras, to which she had previously been a contributor, after Joana Paula Manso de Noronha and Violante Bivar e Velasco. She was the longest-standing of the paper’s three editors, holding the post from 2 October 1853 until its final publication on the 25 December 1855. Part of her relative success may lie in the fact that her husband was both able and willing to support the paper financially (Hahner, 30).
