Biographical details

Born in Buenos Aires on 3 August 1788, daughter of Juana Lezica y Ortega and lawyer of the real Audiencia, Dr. Francisco Javier de Riglos y San Martín. She married Miguel de Irigoyen on 22 December 1809. He became governor of Buenos Aires in 1820. She was one of the first women to answer the calls for support of the Upper Peru campaign in 1810. She pledged to sponsor two men on the campaign and to donate her jewels if necessary. She was widowed in 1822 and married Antonio María Pirán. Her house became a centre of culture, hosting tertulias that were praised by the Robertson brothers. She died in Buenos Aires on 14 July 1870. (Sosa de Newton, 536-537)

She attended tertulias in 1817.

She is described by the Robertson brothers as attending tertulias with Melchora Sarratea, and Mariquita de Thompson in Buenos Aires. ( Arambel Guiñazú, 18)

Miguel de Irigoyen became a teniente coronel in 1820 and governor of Buenos Aires. She pledged to support two men during an independence expedition in June 1810. She was widowed in 1822 and later married Antonio María Pirán. (Carranza, 36-38)
