Biographical details

She was awarded the Orden del Sol by San Martín in 1822. (Gaceta de Lima, 23-1-1822, p.3)

An aristocratic woman who held literary and political tertulias in her Lima home. (Neuhaus Rizo, 117.)

She was a friend of San Martín and even more so of Bolívar. Her family disapproved of her pro-independence sentiments, but they earned her the friendship of the Liberator. (Parra de Riego, 250)

She was the 7th Condesa de la Vega del Ren. Her aristocratic background and Spanish ancestry did not prevent her from being a staunch supporter of independence. An educated women, she read the Rights of Man and served both San Martín and Bolívar in the independence cause. (García y García, 278-279)

She was surely related to José Matias Vazquez de Acuña Menacho, Conde de la Vega de Ren, who subscribed to El Mercurio Peruano in 1791. He was born in Lima and Alcalde Ordinario de Lima, 1791-92. He later supported the independence cause and became Consejero de Estado Orden in Santiago after independence. (Clément, 131.)
