Biographical details

The wife of the last Alcalde of Lima, who was the first to sign the Act of Independence. (Parra de Riego, 250)

Her husband gave the keys of Lima to San Martín, when he entered to liberate the city. She was Lima born and strongly applauded the transfer of power. She convinced many other upper class Limeños to support San Martín. She served the independence cause with her influence and wealth. She was overlooked under Bolívar's government, but suffered in silence. (García y García, 272-273)
