Biographical details

From Caracas, she hosted a gathering with her husband, José Félix Rivas, in 1808 at which supporters of Spain were encouraged to join the independence movement. (Cherpak, 220)

In 1820, royalist general Pablo Morillo sent a message to the widowed Palacios that she could leave her voluntary seclusion. She replied, "digan ustedes a su General, que Josefa Palacios no abandonará sino cuando los suyos vengan a anunciarle que es libre, y que la saquen de él". (Monsalve, 54)
