Juan Cruz Varela

Biographical details

Born in 1794, he was the chronicler of Rivadavia's administration. He wrote two plays, Dido (1823) and Argia, for the Sociedad de Buen Gusto. He became a member of the Unitarian party, opposed to Rosas. His poem, "Al 25 de mayo de 1838" was against Rosas. He died in 1839. (Coaster, 104-106)

Brother of Florencio Varela.
