A Peruvian poet, whose work incited mothers to unite with their husbands and children, and to fight for independence.
She played a part in spreading emancipation propaganda. The nobility of Lima met in her house to discuss revolutionary themes. She held literary cenas at which money and jewels were collected for the cause. A great friend and confidant of Bolívar. She used her beauty and guiles to mix in Spanish circles where she worked as a spy. (Balta, 25-26)
