She was “an outstanding intellectual” from Lima who knew Greek and Latin and translated the Song of Songs (from the Old Testament) into Castilian verse. She led her literary salon and “could stand her ground in any discussion with clerics, university professors, and other educated men”. She was versed in philosophy, maths and ancient history. She was friends with Rita Unamunsaga and Isabel de Orbea who were friends and “collaborators” of the founders of El Mercurio Peruano. (Martín, 307)
