Biography:
She was born in Salta, Argentina, in 1762 and educated in a convent de Potosí. She married her cousin José María Saravia y Jáuregui. She supported the independence cause and in 1810 gave her fortune to buy equipment for the army when it arrived in Salta. Army officers stayed at her home. She gave refuge to a fugitive, not knowing that he had killed one of her sons, but when she learned what he'd done, she helped him to escape. She also gave donations to build and conserve schools, hospitals and religious works. She died in Rosario de Lerma, Salta on 15 September 1815. (Sosa de Newton, 188, 190)
