Born in Bogotá, he married Francisca Valencia; they had 6 children. He helped the families of imprisoned patriots to obtain their release. One of those he helped was Juana María Rojas. He was connected to Policarpa Salavarrieta's network and also connected to the Almeydas. He died in prison on 8 July 1818. After his death he was decapitated and quartered. (Díaz y Díaz, 213-220)
