Campesino rightsBiography:
Born in Colombia in 1803 or 1804, he was a campesino dedicated to agriculture, who became a novelist and writer. He founded the magazine El Mosaico (in 1858?) and collaborated in El Bogotano, and Biblioteca de Señoritas.
His novels include, Manuela, obra precurora de la desigualidad social; Pioquinta o El Valle de Tenza; El Rejo de Enlaza; Bruna la Carbonera; Una Ronda de Don Ventura Ahumada y otras cuadros; and Escritores Colombianos. (Ardila, 25.)
Carlos José Reyes describes Manuela as the first important Colombian novel for its descriptions and language of its characters, especially its campesinos. It seems to have been published in 1858. (Reyes, 199-203; 249-266)
He died in 1865.
