From Caracas, she was the widow of patriot Comandante Manuel Antonio Rachadel. In June 1816, Teniente Coronel Hermógenes Maza and José Luis Moreno were imprisoned in Caracas and condemned to death. They managed to escape, Moreno was recaptured and executed, Maza took refuge in Curvelo's house, where he stayed for several months until she was able to secure passage for him to his native Bogotá.
