In March 1816 Caicara, Venezuela, was occupied by royalist troops after they had been defeated in battle by the patriots. They sought to take revenge on the patriots' homes, women and children. She was among a group of women who tried to defend the town. She was killed in battle on 16 March 1816. (Monsalve, 75)
