Born in 1798, Bogotá, daughter of Sergeant Major Eustacio Arce and Carmen Bernal. Her father fled from the Spaniards and hid in the woods until Boyacá.
On August 1819 she was among a group of 20 young women from distinguished families presented to Bolívar when he arrived at Bogotá in triumph. (Monsalve, 218, 221)
