From Bogotá, she was the daughter of Spaniard Pedro Rubio and Josefa Ricaurte y Torrijos. Her brother, Luis Rubio, was shot by Morillo.
On August 1819 she was among a group of 20 young women from distinguished families presented to Bolívar when he arrived at Bogotá in triumph. (Monsalve, 219, 222)
